Loss of Face and Lovers Rock by John Goto (1949-2023)
John Goto was an artist working in photographic and digital media, a storyteller using narrative forms to explore historical and cultural subjects. This exhibition features two subjects: Loss of Face (2002) – the Iconoclasm of the English Reformation – and Lovers Rock – photographic portraits taken in 1977 (published in 2013) of British Afro-Caribbean young people at Lewisham Youth Centre, South London.
John Goto was a prolific and respected artist. His work was widely recognised for its abundance of ideas, beauty, mystery and tenderness, as well as its social, ethical and spiritual value.
