We want every boy to have a taste of adventure during their time at Radley. Our extensive programme, which includes Combined Cadet Force, Duke of Edinburgh and a growing calendar of adventure training trips, provides ample opportunity for boys to challenge themselves, boost their resilience and make lifelong memories.

Combined Cadet Force

After a brief introduction in the Shells, all boys join the CCF in the Remove year and start a programme of military training which includes first aid, bushcraft, archery, drill and navigation.

After Christmas, they choose between the Royal Navy, Army and Royal Air Force sections, where they will spend two terms. Boys may opt to stay in the CCF in the Fifth Form, where they will take a Method of Instruction course and some advanced training in preparation for their roles as non-commissioned officers in the rest of the Fifths and Sixth Form. Regardless of their length of service, the CCF helps to develop resilience, teamwork skills and leadership ability, which will stand them in good stead for life beyond Radley.

Radley offers Bronze, Silver and Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award programmes.

This internationally-recognised award scheme has various sections, Volunteering, Physical, Skill, Expedition and Residential (Gold only). Each section affords the flexibility for boys to shape the qualification to their own interests. There are many benefits to participation; setting targets and achieving them, making a difference in the lives of others, exploring the great outdoors and developing a sense of service, to name but a few. In a normal year, 150 Radleians will be enrolled in the Bronze Award, those that complete Bronze are eligible to progress through Silver and Gold.

Adventure

We offer a busy calendar of adventurous challenges and training camps.

Highlights from recent years include Clocktower to Clocktower (a 100-km cycle from Radley to Big Ben), Three Peaks Challenges (National, Welsh and Yorkshire 3Ps challenges), 54-mile Oxford Greenbelt Relay, 86-mile Radley Ridgeway Relay and many more.  Some of these trips are organised centrally and offered to whole year groups, some are done for/by certain Socials.
