Radley College is celebrating sweeping successes, with pupils reaching national finals and scoring wins across academic and co-curricular activities. The College’s robotics teams achieved success at the National VEX Robotics Championships at the Telford International Centre. Team Polaris won their division and narrowly missed overall national victory in the UK grand final.
Alastair Vaan, head of computer science at Radley, earned the Teacher of the Year title for his dedication to VEX robotics and his efforts to introduce robotics to state school pupils. Four boys from the Upper Sixth contended in the national final of the Oxford Union Schools’ Debating Competition on 9th March. In addition, three boys clinched the regional final of the English Speaking Union’s Mace Debating Competition, thus securing a place in the national final set for Dartmouth House in April.
In musical achievements, the Radley College Guitar Quartet has qualified for the national final of the Pro Corda Chamber Music Festival. School organist Kim Chin bagged the top prize at the School Organists’ Association Young Organists’ Competition at Merton College, Oxford.
John Moule, Warden of Radley College, said: “At Radley, we care about the small wins that happen on a weekly basis but it would be remiss not to acknowledge what an exceptional two weeks we have had.”
