Match report by George O’Connor (2017, J)
It was an overcast day at the College, with showers around all day; the Rangers won the toss and chose to bat with only 9 men …
Folkestone and Farr opened up against a strong FF bowling attack that was led by fellow Rangers, Henry Redmayne and Fred Loveland. Redmayne took three quick ones, leaving the Rangers in a sticky situation at 19-3. Luckily, for the RR it was Alex Little on Rangers debut, who stuck in alongside Tom Oliver, putting on 65 to leave the Rangers at 84-4 with 20 mins before lunch.
In true Rangers style, with lunch calling the Rangers slumped to 86-7!
After lunch, the Rangers went out to try and rebuild. A very well batted 62 for Tom Oliver saved the Rangers from complete capitulation. The RR were bowled out for 128 from 40 overs.
With the overhead conditions in our favour, the Rangers set about 10 wickets diligently. The new ball was given to Sam Turner and Johnny Wright. The RR bowled well for not much luck, but we knew that we were still in it even after a good FF opening partnership.
The FF were 46-0 before Tom Eden came on and cleaned up Carmen on the first ball. The star with the ball goes to Charlie Williams in his Lacoste trainers, who bowled an incredible 8 over spell in which included 3 wickets for just 24 runs. All of a sudden, the FF were 93-5 needing 128. Sadly, the RR couldn’t take the opportunity and ultimately lost by 4 wickets.
Another great game on Bigside to wrap up the home season for 2023!
