Estates Bursar David Anderson shares an update on the new Music School building project.

Progress on site has been very good since my last note two months ago. We are still on target to finish by next December – however, things will now start to get complicated, with seven or eight different trades working simultaneously within the building. With this, our main challenges will be coordination and delivery of key materials, which I monitor daily. I have also moved office and can now see the faces of the site management looking in the window – a proper supervising position!

On site presently, we have bricklayers working on both the external elevations on the internal partitions, concrete contractors pouring the topping onto the upper floor planks, carpenters installing first fix structural timbers within the roof, and the roof covering contractor installing insulation ready for the waterproof membrane. This, together with the delivery of the roof heat pumps, must all be completed by the second week in April – when the plan is to dismantle the tower crane, with access into the building from the top being limited as a result. Mobile access equipment, and occasionally a small mobile crane, will be used after this time.

Here are a series of photographs, taken on site in early February!
