We were delighted to see the creative talents of the College community on display earlier this week as the results of the Christmas Photography Competition were announced.

Submissions were invited on the themes of ‘People’ and ‘Above and Below’. With a large number of excellent photos entered, the judges (Mr Hibbs, Mr Sills, Dr Tufnell and Charlie (6.1, K)) had their work cut out choosing the winners.

1st place – ‘Madarch’ by Hugo (V, L)

I took this photo while on a walk in a forest in Plas Y Brenin, Wales. I noticed all these mushrooms nestled in the forest floor untouched by humans. I thought it would be a good idea to take a photo looking up, under the mushrooms to get a view of the trees as well, which helped to fit the brief ‘Above and Below.’

2nd place – ‘Hidden’ by Fin (R, L)

I took this photo rather spontaneously whilst I was walking through a graffiti tunnel – I rather like how this image portrayed a woman who was hidden so that’s why I decided to call the photo ‘Hidden’. I took this with a Fuji film camera in portrait.

3rd place – ‘Hot Air Balloons’ by Hugo (V, L)

What I like about this photo is the pale blue sky which contrasts nicely with the bright and bold colours of the hot air balloons. I was very lucky that there were no clouds in the sky when I took this photo!

Also highly commended was ‘Under The Trees’ by Jack (R, K).

Whilst wandering through the woods with my Labrador, I stopped to admire my surroundings. I gazed up to see a desirable display and captured it by placing my phone on the floor. I set a timer for several seconds, making sure to step away and turn the photo mode to ‘raw’.

Thank you to everyone who took part, and congratulations to the winners!
